Whirlfloc is used in homebrewing as a clarifying agent to produce a clearer finished beer. It is a blend of Irish moss and purified carrageenan that coagulates and settles out haze-causing proteins and beta-glucans during the boil, resulting in brighter wort and less haze. It is typically added during the last 5 minutes of the boil.
Recommended Usage: For 5 gallons, add 0.2-0.4 tablets to the boiling kettle, 10 minutes before the end of boiling. Occasionally as much as a 1 full tablet is required, especially in low-pH brews. Tablets do not need to be hydrated and should dissolve rapidly. If problems occur, the tablet may be crushed prior to use. Approximately 180 tablets per pound.
