The Vinfilter gravity filter system works well but is slower than other systems. Wine is syphoned out of the carboy and filters through the filter head which sits on top of the collecting carboy. Includes one filter pad. We recommend using the Crystal Brite Filter pads with this unit (sold separately)
The filter sheets are made of refined kieselguhr, which does not cause bad taste in the wine. Filter sheets do not contain asbestos fibers or other material that would give aftertaste or “fluff”
There are four types of filter sheets: No.1000. No. 500, No. 100 and SST. Normally two filterings are sufficient.
If the wine is very foggy, No. 1000 and thereafter No. 100 should be applied. If you want to obtain a very fine sterile filtering SST should be used last.
Before the wine is filtered, it should be siphoned, stand and settle for a few hours.
